Removal, survey and installation of a basket of coupling

The dust formed at deterioration of components of coupling, can contain asbestos, unhealthy. Do not clean off its compressed air and try not to inhale. Do not use gasoline or mineral solvents to wash off a dust, for this purpose there are special cleaners, methyl spirit will approach also.


 REMOVAL

1. On the given models it is necessary to remove from the car the power unit, and then, on a workbench, to separate transmission from the engine (address to the Head engine Repair).

2. Before to remove coupling, put on a basket and a flywheel of a label a paint or a marker.

3a. Loosen the basket bolts in diagonal sequence...

3b.... Turning them on a half-turn for reception so that bolts it was possible to turn on manually.

4. Wring out a basket from adjusting pins and take a frictional disk, having remembered its orientation.

Considering duration and labour input of procedure of removal and installation of components of coupling, it is recommended to replace a frictional disk, a basket and выжимной the bearing even if one of these components is worn out only.

 SURVEY

1. Before cleaning of components of coupling read the Prevention resulted in the beginning of this Section. Remove all dust, using a pure, dry fabric.
2. Examine overlays of a frictional disk on presence of damages, signs of deterioration and oil stains. If the frictional overlay has cracked, has burnt through, is scratched or has other damages, is polluted by oil or greasing (brilliant black stains), replace a frictional disk. Check up depth of installation of rivets; if it makes 0.5 mm and less, the frictional disk also is subject to replacement.
3. If frictional overlays are still serviceable, be convinced that grooves of a nave of a disk are not worn out, демпферные springs in a good condition and are reliably fixed and that all rivets on a place. If any of the listed damages is found out, replace a frictional disk.
4. If the frictional overlay is polluted by oil, it can be caused leak through an epiploon коленвала, an entrance shaft of transmission or through a joint of the pallet of the kartera/block of cylinders. Before installation of a new frictional disk, replace an epiploon or a lining (Repair of the engine or Transmission see a corresponding part of Heads).
5. Examine a basket on presence of signs of deterioration and damage. Shake it to check up, whether rivets and basic rings диафрагменной springs are broken. Be convinced that plates, fastening press a disk to a coupling basket, have no overheating signs (bright yellow or blue stains). If диафрагменная the spring is worn out or damaged, or if ослабло its pressure, replace a basket (address to an accompanying illustration).
6. Examine the processed surfaces of a press disk and a flywheel; they should be pure, ideally equal and smooth. If one of components or has changed colour from an overheat, or has cracked, it is necessary to replace it. Insignificant damages of this character sometimes can be ground off, using an emery paper.
7. Be convinced that выжимной the bearing rotates exactly and easily, without noise and jerks. Check up also that its surface smooth and has no cracks, dot corrosion or the worked places. If there is any doubt concerning its condition, replace the bearing.


 INSTALLATION

1. At assemblage, be convinced that working surfaces of a flywheel both a press disk pure and equal. Use solvent to remove protective greasing from new components.

2. Establish a frictional disk so that the acting part of its nave has been directed from a flywheel. If it is required, fix a frictional disk in working position, using the tool for a coupling centering (address to an accompanying illustration).

3. Establish assemblage of a press disk on pins (address to an accompanying illustration), having combined the labels made during removal. Insert bolts of a press disk, but tighten them while only manually that the frictional disk still could be displaced.

4. The frictional disk is necessary for centering, so that at installation of transmission its entrance shaft could pass through a disk nave.
5. For this purpose, insert a screw-driver or any long core through a frictional disk into deepening in an end face коленвала and move a disk to the necessary party while deepening коленвала will not rise precisely in the centre of a nave of a disk. Alternatively, it is possible to use the special aligning tool or to make the self-made tool of the metal or wooden pin close on diameter to deepening in коленвале and having in contact with a nave of a frictional disk a place a thickening, corresponding to diameter of an aperture of a disk.

Complete sets of coupling Renault are supplied by a special aligning tube.

6. After the frictional disk is centered, tighten bolts of a press disk in regular intervals and in diagonal sequence the effort resulted in Specifications. Remove aligning tool.
7. Put on contact surfaces выжимного the bearing, directing plug and a plug it is a little молибденовой greasing (Renault recommends Molykote BR2).

Do not apply too much greasing, its surplus can get on overlays of a frictional disk.

8. Establish transmission on the engine, then establish the power unit in the car as it is described in the Head engine Repair.
